The Town Of Huntley
Since 1960, Huntley has had its own newspaper called The Huntley Farmside, featuring local news and published every Thursday. For a small town, Huntley has a well-established park district. Its "jewel" is Deicke Park, located on Rt. 47. In the last five years, School District 158 has outgrown its Lincoln Street facilities and a new Jr./Sr. High School was built on Harmony Rd. Presently there are two new elementary schools under construction, scheduled to open in the fall of 2000 - one at the Harmony Rd. campus and one on Reed Rd. Huntley has a large and beautiful new library, completed in the summer of 1999. With the larger facility, expanded programs and larger, more comprehensive collections and materials, the library is serving more people than ever.

In the 1930s, Huntley’s industry consisted of three milk factories, a grist mill, lumber yard, farm implement, and the usual village stores; today the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce has in excess of 230 members. In the ‘20s, the Elgin Belvidere Electric Railroad passed through town. In the ‘30s the railroad went out of business, having been replaced by automobiles and the development of hard surface roads. Today, Huntley is served by a local airport within 10 miles, O’Hare International Airport within 30 miles and Metra Train system within 10 miles. Huntley’s strategic proximity to to Interstate 90, halfway between Rockford and Chicago, makes the Village a logical choice of developers. In 1999 the estimated population of Huntley grew from approximately 2,200 people to more than 6,500 by year’s end.
