For over a century, European immigrants have brought their rich heritage to Chicago and settled in the University Village community (sometimes referred to as 'Little Italy'). Many Chicagoland residents, like those on Oakley or Grand Avenue in Cicero or Melrose Park, can trace their family history to Taylor Street — one of the premier neighborhoods in all of Chicagoland.
Just five minutes from downtown Chicago, University Village is a diverse neighborhood centrally located between the world’s largest urban medical district and the University of Illinois at Chicago. With its beautiful parks and museums, ethnic restaurants and modern schools, this culturally rich community extends a warm welcome daily to visitors from around the world.
Just to the north is the famous United Center, home of the six-time World Champion Chicago Bulls basketball team and the Chicago Blackhawks hockey team. The University Village neighborhood is the perfect place to visit before or after the big game!
This community is easily accessible from downtown and the suburbs. A cab ride from downtown Chicago to Taylor Street and Loomis is less than $6.00. From downtown Chicago, the CTA 37 Sedgwick and the 50 Racine routes both have stops in the community. The CTA Blue Line has several stops in the University Village area, including destinations at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Illinois Medical District.
Traveling via Interstate 90/94 or Interstate 290, simply use the Taylor Street exit and you’ll see how easy it is for everyone to visit this diverse, interesting neighborhood. |
