The Neighborhood Of Irving Park

 Irving Park, on the Northwest Side, is a community known for its historic homes and convenient shopping areas. The neighborhood is bounded by Montrose Avenue, Elston Avenue, Irving Park Road, the North Branch of the Chicago River, Addison Street and Cicero Avenue.
Old Irving Park, bounded by Montrose Avenue, Pulaski Road, Addison Street and Kostner Avenue, is an architectural treasure trove. Queen Anne, Victorian and Italianate homes, vintage farmhouses and elegant bungalows are in various stages of renovation or preservation.
The Villa Historic District-bounded by Avondale, Addison, Pulaski and Hamlin-has 125 architecturally significant California- and Chicago-style bungalows, many with Prairie School details. Many of the older homes are on 50-foot-wide lots facing tree-lined parkways.
Independence Park, bounded by Elston, Montrose, Pulaski and the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94), has a wealth of historic homes to offer, including some from the turn of the century. |
