The Neighborhood Of Beverly Hills, Morgan Park
Once two small towns that grew along the path of the Rock Island Lines, the Beverly Hills/Morgan Park neighborhood is bounded by 87th Street, 119th Street, California, Vincennes and Beverly avenues.

Architecture in Beverly (as the area is referred to by its residents) includes almost every style built in Chicago from the Victorian era through the 1940s. Queen Anne and Stick Victorian, bungalows, International Style, Prairie, Georgian, Colonial and Tudors are well-represented. There is even a castle at 103rd and Longwood Drive, a replica of an Irish keep, built from limestone carried by oxcart from the Joliet quarries.

Beverly residents are justifiably proud of their neighborhood's architectural history. So much so, that the Beverly Area Planning Association has published a Historic Homes brochure featuring 39 of its more famous houses. The Ridge Historic District in this Southwest Side neighborhood, one of the largest urban historic districts in the United States, encompasses three Chicago Landmark Districts.

Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Burley Griffin, George Washington Maher and Murray Hetherington are among those who designed houses in the area. Also in the district are such cultural institutions as the Ridge Historical Society, the Beverly Art Center and the historic Dr. German House.

The Beverly Area Planning Association, a community-based alliance of neighborhood groups, publishes brochures detailing many aspects of life in the Beverly/ Morgan Park area, and sponsors an annual Home Tour, as well as the History Mystery Bicycle Tour and Festival. The annual South Side Irish Parade draws more than 20,000 spectators. The Ridge Run, Oktoberfest, Ridge Walk and other celebrations are held annually.

There are 16 public, private and parochial schools in the area, including Magnet schools. Morgan Park Academy is 125 years old. St. Xavier University is located just west of Beverly Hills/Morgan Park. Other educational resources include two branches of the Chicago Public Library.

Twelve parks (two with pools), field houses, forest preserves, two private country clubs, a public golf course, an indoor baseball center, AYSO soccer and a city bike route are scattered throughout Beverly, providing diverse recreational opportunities for residents of all ages and interests.

The Evergreen Plaza, built in the early 1950s, is now a modern two-level shopping facility with big-name stores and smaller specialty shops. Technically located in Evergreen Park, the mall borders Beverly on the west side and is only a short drive for all residents.
