The Neighborhood Of Roscoe Village

Over the past several years, Roscoe Village has begun a metamorphosis from a quiet, working-class family neighborhood to one with a younger, hipper, transplant population. It has quickly become one of the cooler places to live, and the influx of those unwilling or unable to afford Lincoln Park have chosen it as a roost. As a result, Roscoe Village is home to scores of bars, shops, supermarkets, and restaurants catering to the old local families, newer condo dwellers, and everyone in-between.
The population here is still diverse, but rehabbing is running rampant; its easy to see that today’s empty warehouse or manufacturing buildings will be tomorrow’s condo and loft space. Roscoe Village is located between Belmont and Addison Avenues, and west from Paulina Street to Western Avenue. The stretch of Belmont from Western Avenue west to the River is known as “Antique Row,” and is THE place in the Midwest for finding whatever antiques you’re looking for. |
