One of the Most Popular Museums in the World, Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry opened in 1933. It is the oldest science museum of its kind in the Western Hemisphere attracts approximately 2 million visitors per year. This museum houses more educational exhibits than you can shake a stick at, and besides being a wealth of knowledge, it is an interesting, exciting, and extremely fun way to spend the day - whether you're four, forty, or ninety-four years old! In 2000, nearly 400,000 children in school groups and youth organizations visited the Museum the Museum is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the City of Chicago, and among seven of the most visited museums in the United States.
The one millionth visitor entered the the Museum in 1935, and nearly 160 million visitors have experienced the Museum since its opening in 1933.
The Museum has over 30,000 member households representing nearly 51,000 individuals the Museum has over 300 volunteers.

From the north, proceed south on Lake Shore Drive. You'll notice a bit of construction at 47th Street. Continue straight ahead, Southbound. Exit right on 57th Street (you'll need to be in the right-hand lane). Follow the curve around to the west side of the building and turn left to access the garage entrance.
From the south, take I-94 North to Garfield Blvd. (also called 55th Street). Exit eastbound. Stay on Garfield for approximately one mile and watch for King Drive. Just past King, veer right on Payne Drive (look for the blue and green Museum signs). Payne dead-ends at the Midway Plaisance – turn left (east). Stay on the Plaisance about one mile to Cornell Drive. Turn left. Turn right into the Museum's parking garage, just before reaching 57th Street. |
